Craps involves several other important bet types other than Pass Line and Don’t Pass bets. Here’s a brief description of each one of them:
This bet type works almost the same way as the Pass Line bet, but how it differs from it is that you can place it even while a round is in progress. To place this bet, you must place your chips inside the Come area of the layout on the table. Now, the next roll from the shooter decides whether you win or lose your bet, or instead if a point number is established. The Come bet wins in case the shooter rolls out an 11 or a 7. The bet is lost if the shooter rolls out at 12, 3 or a 2. Rollout of any other number leads to establishment of the point number, and then the come bet wins if the shooter rolls out that point number again, prior to a 7.
Don’t Come bets
Opposite of the Come bets, Don’t Come bets work the same way as the Don’t Pass bets, the only difference being that they can be placed even when a round is in progress. These bets win in case the shooter rolls out a 3 or a 2. The bet gets tied in the event that a 12 is rolled out. A Don’t Come bet is considered lost if the shooter rollout results in an 11 or a 7. Any other number rolled out leads to establishment of a point number, and then the Don’t Come bet wins only if a 7 is rolled out prior to the point number again.
You can place a bet over and above the original bet at any point of time after a point number is established. Any such bet is referred to as an odds bet. Such bet can be placed if a player has already placed a bet on the Don’t Come, Come, Don’t Pass Line or the Pass Line. The player can either ‘take’ odds on any Come bet or Pass Line bet, or ‘lay’ odds on any Don’t Come or Don’t Pass bet.
Buy & Lay bets
A Buy bet is placed on the possibility that the shooter will roll out a particular number (a point number) prior to rolling out a 7. Hence, the numbers you can place a Buy bet on are 10, 9, 8, 6, 5 and 4. A Lay bet on the other hand is just the opposite of a Buy bet. It involves placing a wager on the chances of getting a 7 prior to a particular point number. The payouts are based on the odds shown at the craps table.
Much like a Buy bet, a Place bet involves betting on the possibility of getting a particular number (a point number) prior to 7. The only difference is that the payout odds differ from the Buy bets and no commission is charged.
Hard Ways bets
This is betting on the possibility of both dice turning up the same number, for instance two 5s. The bet is lost if the shooter rolls out any other combination. These bets are placed at the centre of the craps table’s layout.
